Our Very First Yard Sale Buy Together

Cindy and I from the beginning of our relationship, have shared a love for yard sales, estate sales and Thrift Shopping.  A few weeks after I moved in with her, we did a little yard sailing together.  In fact for the next month, we hit the yard/garage sales every weekend.

I remember the very first thing we bought together; it is a Miniature Perfume Bottle. The perfume bottle is a Vintage 1925 Grenoville Byzance from France.  The Bottle Measures 3-1/8" tall by 1-5/8" wide. The Top is Shaped like a Avocado.  It still has a small amount of perfume.

Starting Our Collection of Kaboodles Together 12 Years Ago

When Cindy and I met, we really did not have much of a collection of anything. I have a few vintage glass pieces I brought with me, into our relationship. I will touch a lot more, on one of those fantastic pieces, in a future post on my Uranium/ Vaseline Glass Collection. I also have a collection of Keys from a variety of places. The best keys are the Butte, Montana Skeleton Keys and Uptown Butte Business keys.  My Great Uncle gave them to me, during a yard sale he was having. I was 13 when I acquired those keys, I am now 41. They have been a treasure I have held very close to me, and guarded. That leads me To Cindy Ann's Collections.

Cindy's major collection of treasures is Key Chains. I call her the Gate~Keeper, and I am the Key~Master. She had maybe 90-115 when we met. I say she now has at least 170-190. I added a new one to it Yesterday; a Coach New York Clothing and Accessories Mini Camp Trailer Luxury Key~Chain. I found it at Goodwill, for $10. It was originally $20. I cannot find one on the COACH Site to price it, and see if I made a Killer Deal. I think COACH NEW YORK anything for $10 is a Awesome Possum Find. If anyone reading this, can help me with any information on this little gem, I would so appreciate it. I know it weighs 2.45 Grams.

Our collection of Treasures might have started small, but it has grown into an Eclectic Assortment of Eccentric #Hodgepodge.

Eeeek Monsters!!! Hey!!! Who's in that Dumpster? Captain Jack Sparrow!!!

One day Cindy Ann and I were out hitting the streets and dumpsters. We rolled up on 2 Dumpsters; I jumped out and ran up to one of them. I popped my head in, and let out a small shriek. To my surprise, a gentleman was inside.  Chuckling a little from being startled, I introduced myself. He rapped his name back, "Hi I'm Jack."

Come to learn, Jack had been homeless for 2 years; a little down on his luck, his spirits and hopes were hi. We chit chatted a while longer, him in one dumpster, and I in the other. I got ready to leave; he then reached in his pocket. He said, "Put your hand out, I have something for ya." He put in my hand, one Brand New Rolling Stones Lighter, he said he had found.

I still to this day wonder, did he really find it, or was it a special treasure of his, he passed on to me. I turned it down at first, I mean it was a bit to nice, just to be handing off to me. He insisted; I smiled and looked it over. I thanked him from the bottom of my heart for his kind gesture. He told me the talk was more than pleasant, and he will always cherish our little time in the dumpsters together. Here is a picture of the Zippo, that I will always treasure.

We Call It Hippie Christmas; You Might call it Dumpster Diving.

Our Favorite way of Collecting, we call our #Hippie Christmas. There is nothing much better, than diving in Dumpsters, and finding free Treasures. We have found some pretty amazing items. We have raked in 8 mini fridges, 1 deep freezer, 3 student desk, 5 coffee tables, an #Antique table and chairs from #Amish Country Pennsylvania, countless table and desk chairs, numerous dressers, bed frames and so much more, that I cannot even begin to list it all.

I will post pictures periodically of items we have found; I will tell you if it sold, and for how much. I know I have made at least $800 off all the free items, we have found, if not more. I am terrible at record keeping. That is my next goal to tackle, inventory of my items that have sold, and that I still have...

We use to clean houses and apartments, for rental agencies around the campus. You would be aghast at what students leave behind, when they graduate or disappear for the summer.  Here is a Mandolin that a student left behind. I sold it for $45.  I had several people offer me $20-$30 for it, but I stuck to my price. Took a little longer to sell, but I know it was worth the $45 I sold it for.

I have a funny story to share, in my next post. I crack a smile, every time I think of it, and look at the Rolling Stones Zippo Lighter I gained from the Hippie Christmas Trip.  I met Captain Jack Sparrow in a Dumpster.
